Maximizing Your Time at Crested Butte Mountain Resort
Whether visiting Crested Butte Mountain Resort for a conference, event or simply for fun, there will likely be at least one moment where you think, “How can I kill some time before my next obligation or activity?” Luckily, Crested Butte Mountain Resort offers a wide variety of options – both casual and adventurous – to fill any time voids that your schedule may dictate.
Here are a few of our favorite ways to spend some time at Crested Butte Mountain Resort.
A quick stop at Coal Breaker Coffee Co. located conveniently within the Treasury Center will fuel you through the rest of your day. Enjoy a fresh cup of coffee, a made-to-order breakfast sandwich or crepe, or even cool off with a locally-made Third Bowl Ice Cream cone!
Named after the local Ruby-Anthracite coal breaker – the largest coal breaking facility west of Pennsylvania in the late 1800s – Coal Breaker Coffee features some interesting photos and artifacts from Crested Butte’s mining days.
This is the ideal amount of time to enjoy a scenic lift ride on either the Red Lady or Silver Queen Express Lifts. Amazing panoramic views of the Elk Mountain Range, Ruby Range and the town of Crested Butte take over as you are whisked up Mt. Crested Butte. The scenic lift rides include the option to ride the lift back down to the base area.
Scenic lift tickets are required and can be purchased at the Adventure Center or Evolution Bike Shop. Please note that dogs are not permitted to ride the lifts.
Peruse the shelves at the numerous retail outlets located within the Crested Butte Mountain Resort base area. Whether you are looking for a new mountain lifestyle-inspired wardrobe from Thin Air Sports or a branded souvenir at CB Mountain Outfitters, there are plenty of options without needing to head downtown.
Your options for adventure are nearly endless with two hours! Soar through the sky above hikers and bikers on the CBMR Zipline Tour or take a leisurely hike to The Umbrella Bar at Ten Peaks for a drink and bite to eat.
One of our favorite activities is the Guided Hike program offered at the resort. Educational, yet adventurous, the guided hikes will lead you through sub-alpine and alpine flora and fauna to incredible mountain vistas and secluded fields of wildflowers. The Wildflower Guided Hike is more mellow and consists of a beautiful meandering hike from the top of the Red Lady Lift back to the base area. If you are after a bit more action, the Guided Peak Hike will point your toes up the Peak Trail to the 12,162’ summit of Mt. Crested Butte – a truly incredible experience.
All activities are subject to weather and can be shut down if a thunderstorm or high winds is expected. For more information, please visit skicb.com or call the experience experts in our Mountain Concierge at 970-349-4554.
